BOA to Host Virtual Discussion to Mark IMD 2021

This Friday, November 19, is International Men's Day (IMD), a day to acknowledge the significance of men and boys throughout the world, and The Barbados Olympic Association Inc. (BOA) will once again be participating in the global celebrations.

For more than 20 years IMD has been celebrated annually on November 19, to underscore that males have a critical role to play in the development of the society. IMD is built on six pillars, one of which is to improve gender relations and gender equality, and in keeping with that, the theme for IMD 2021 is 'Better Relations between Men and Women’.

Secretary General, Erskine Simmons said that the BOA supports the principles of IMD and is committed to doing its part to raise the profile of men in Barbados. “We want to see the men in our society reach their fullest potential and the goal of our upcoming activity is to achieve just that. We will celebrate, champion and empower our men, giving them access to information in areas such as finance, health and fashion that they put into practice to succeed,” said Simmons.

To mark the day, the BOA will host a virtual event dubbed ‘Let’s Chat about It’ based on the theme - Championing Our Men: Equipping them for success! It will be streamed live on the BOA’s Facebook page and YouTube on November 28, 2021 starting at 6:00 p.m.

The host for this event will be Coach Educator and Sport Journalist, Renaldo Gilkes and Vice President of the Barbados Rugby Football Union, Kevyn Murrell. Together they will facilitate the discussion among diverse and distinguished guests throughout the hour, comprised of - Fashion Designer Rhaj Paul; Mindset Coach Paul Sealy; Fitness Professional Bacari Bascombe; Medical Practitioner Dr. Adrian Lorde; Portfolio Manager Nicholas Neckles and Entrepreneur Jamar Odwin. The evening is expected to be interactive and informative, as the guests examine three main topics – Fashion and Mental Wealth, Health and Fitness as well as Business and Finance.

The BOA wishes all men and boys a happy International Men's Day and invites the public to tune in.
