Jamal Grosvenor, a coach with the Athletics Association of Barbados (AAB) and a Physical Education teacher at The Lodge School, has been awarded an Olympic Solidarity (OS) Scholarship to pursue a high-level coaching course offered by the International Support Program to African and Caribbean Sport (PAISAC).
PAISAC provides training in Applied Sport Sciences, with the goal of helping participants understand the various aspects of sports practice. Through the training, which is theoretical and practical, coaches will be equipped with skills to better plan training sessions for their athletes.
The two-phase program takes a hybrid approach. Phase 1, which is online, commenced on November 1, and ends on December 11, 2021. This is followed by fieldwork. Phase 2 will be face-to-face and is scheduled to run from May 2 – 30, 2022 in Montreal, Canada.
In Canada, Coach Grosvenor will be required to sit exams and present his work for review, in addition to engaging in two weeks of practical training.
Director of the National Olympic Academy, Vaneisha Cadogan, said that The Barbados Olympic Association Inc. (BOA) is delighted that Grosvenor has been selected to participate in this hands-on training and wishes him every success.
Cadogan added, “This program provides students with an excellent training opportunity to improve their knowledge and expertise, and participants are carefully selected. It is therefore an honour for our candidate to be chosen for the course and additionally, to be awarded an OS Scholarship. The benefits Jamal will garner from this program are numerous, and we look forward to him applying what he learns to his sport, to assist with the advancement of our athletes”.
