5th Diabetes Global Village for the Barbados Diabetes Foundation

Diabetes Global Village is 5 years old. Born on November 14, 2007, the event was my second after leaving my 10 year job at Nation Publishing Co. Limited as it Corporate Communications Manager.

The paint had not yet dried on my company documents before my good friend Carlisle Goddard saw me on messenger and asked what I was up to. When I told him, he immediately jumped on the opportunity to get me, the best-known healthy event coordinator on the island to whip in ship his idea for a diabetes expo. And the Doc. really worked hard with me to get a handful of medical reps from companies who frequented his office to be exhibitors and viola – the Diabetes Global Village was born.

Five consecutive events later he has literally taken a back seat and podiatrist Simone McConnie has taken up the reigns. I am very proud of the work we have done. Growing the Global Village from a small area at the Barbados Hilton to the largest room at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Conference Centre with not a few hundred but a few thousand of visitors. We now have a full programme of exhibitions, seminars, tests of all types, exercise, entertainment and the works.

Diabetes Global Village will be this weekend Friday and Saturday. It is now a not-to-be-missed event. My thanks go out to the Barbados Diabetes Foundation for giving me the privilege of working with the event.
