NATIONAL ACTIVITY TASKFORCE READY TO GET BARBADOS MOVING

Ilaro Court will be a hive of activity this Saturday, March 13, as the National Task Force on Physical Activity and Exercise, stages its inaugural Get Moving Barbados Exercise Event. The free event, which will run from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m., is designed to have persons of all ages #8220Get up; Get Active and Get Healthy." It will include a number of activities, all led by qualified fitness professionals.

"According to Task Force member and fitness professional, Kenneth Griffith, a number of fun events are planned for persons to try. #8220Exercise and fitness should be fun, so that people will do it on a regular basis. We are going to have the traditional forms of exercise - group exercise, aerobics and step and we#8217re going to have a gym set up with spin bikes and free weights#8230 Then we are also going to have #8230hopscotch and Chinese skip. Those games that we all played in our childhood, that are seemingly forgotten,#8221 Mr. Griffith said.

Coordinators have also planned line, latin and ballroom dancing, sprints, a hike, paddle ball, road tennis, martial arts, a boot camp and an obstacle course. There will also be Body Mass Index and body fat level testing and nutritional counseling. Composer and singer of the #8216Get Moving#8217 jingle, Edwin Yearwood, will also make a special appearance.

Parking for the event will be available at the western car park of the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre and patrons must also use the gate at that location to gain entry. The National Taskforce on Physical Activity and Exercise is chaired by wife of the Prime Minister, Mrs. Mara Thompson.#160
