Wow! We have finally done it! The first Summer Edition of the Diabetes Today Magazine has been published, and we at PRMR Inc. are tickled pink. Since the first Edition in 2007, we have been toying with the idea of having a bi-annual publication but despite our best efforts, be it financial or production, we have been unable until now to do it.
The 5th edition (Summer 2012) of the Diabetes Today Magazine focuses on a very difficult topic, amputation. We in Barbados are very embarrassed by our figures with a rate of almost one amputation a day. If you have visited Barbados you would hardly see any amputees despite this high number. A staggering statistic of course is the accompanying high mortality rate that goes along with amputations.
Through Diabetes Today we hope to build awareness of diabetes and help to curb some of the stigma and ignorance that surrounds it. I especial hope that we are able to do some of this in this edition because every limb saved is a life saved.
