BOA Host Sports Career Fair for Primary and Secondary School

Over 300 primary and secondary students are expected to gather at the Lloyld Erskine Sandiford Conference Center on Monday March 18 from 10am for the first ever Youth Change Maker Sports Career Awareness Fair.The Sports Career Awareness Fair, being staged under the auspices of the Barbados Olympic Association Inc. (BOA) is the brainchild of Barbados’ Youth Changer Maker (YCM) representative, Daneka Headley.

Headley is currently the Sport for Development Officer at the BOA. She was selected to the elite group of young people worldwide that are using sport as a tool for development after submitting a winning proposal to the Olympic Solidarity of International Olympic Committee, the agency administering the YCM program.

“The aim of this initiative is to provide YCMs with the platform to turn our passion for sport into concrete actions and to stay connected with other YCMs and the IOC, which gave life to this new initiative, The Sport Career Awareness Fair” Headley said.

The purpose of the sport career fair is to highlight and promote the diverse careers in sport and physical activity and the process of pursuing them. Several local sport professionals will facilitate the discussions including: professional/semi-professional athletes, athletic therapist, sport nutritionists, sport administrators, sport marketers, sport broadcasters, sport educators, sport event managers, public relations practitioners, educators, sport team managers, coaches and referees among others.

The event will have an interactive setting for students to engage directly with these professionals who speak about their educational backgrounds, career paths and day to day duties of their professions. There will also be live demonstrations and equipment displays.
